MEDICALIZATION AND PSYCHOLOGIZATION OF SOCIAL PROBLEMS:
Challenges and chances for social policy

(MEPYSO)

The MEPYSO research project addresses the question of whether medical and psychological explanations for social problems such as poverty, unemployment and early childhood development have increased in recent years. It therefore pursues an interdisciplinary approach, both theoretically and methodically by analyzing the existing literature on medicalization for the past decades. In addition, we ask how the public opinion on affected groups is shaped by political and social media debates. Quantitative analyzes with both, independently collected and secondary data should additionally support the results and make them more generalizable.
